late Breaking News!

I made the top ten overall with my latte. My score of 78 was only bettered by two and matched by one other. I'm going to represent Seattle in the next round!

See the results here!

Steven really smacked it down.

That morning I got coffee from him at V3, on Beacon Hill, and he was all, "I don't know, I don't know.." Then he went to the final round, nice job dude!
At the smack down.

Inside the barista smackdown at Victrola on Pike and, of course, at the bar afterward.

You can see the web cam and just see the projection screen that connected us to Los Angeles where they were smacking down too.

So here's my loosing (out of focus) pour. It was actually good up until I spilled it while moving it from the counter to under the camera. I had great fun and even learned a couple things.
I was the first pour of the night and was paired against Michael who I used to work with.
You can see all the lattes here

It's so embarrassing, I can hardly look at it. If you've followed the blog you've seen this, this and this.

Better photos than I take.

The other week when we were dialing in the La Pavoni, Jeff Romeo was around taking some photos. Looks pretty good to me.
This Macch actually shows up further back in blog posts and was my first go on that steam wand. Later on we cleaned the wand out and our results improved.

Hidden away in the super secret coffee lab at Tougo, could it be unveiled this weekend? Come and see...

The trouble with not having the camera ready is they get all bubbly by the time you do :(

First latte of my Friday morning.

Today I made some coffee with Alexis at Trabant Lounge in Pioneer Square. It was good times. We were pulling the 49th parallel organic espresso blend. I think I like Epic better, but you never know.. I don't actually know the potential of the organic blend.
I saw all the slayer parts...

Eric was helpful, friendly and wired, we made a lot of spro. He flickered me making bad latte art

We were certainly a crew...

And many coffees were made.

Me slinging Herkimer on the Slayer, Seattle's newest espresso machine.

Notice the PID says 203ish...

The scace says 197ish. I never got a good explanation on that. We played with it a bit, cleaned the scace, used other meters, other probes... Eventually one was re calibrated to the other, I don't know which to which.

One of my new favorite coffee spots, Porch light, with owner operator Zac at the helm.

JD of Oslo Coffee in Brooklyn, NY, stopped by the shop today. He brought 3 bags of mystery espresso; he's been working on his blend. It was a good time, pulling them all.

This morning my coworker and I went to home of a regular customer. We spent a couple hours making shots, pouring lattes, giving advice and dialing in the machine. It was extracting really low, like 175 degrees. Once the temp was up the coffee was really good. As home setups go, this ones great and I'm envious.

Drew at Vivace's newest, Brix. Drew pulled me by far the best shots I've had at Vivace.

Herkimer Cafe

Hanging out in the roasting area with Scott Richadrson, Dan and I were flying after he jacked us up on like half a dozen shots. I love hanging out back there with Scott, he's a top notch coffee nerd.

15th ave Coffee and Tea, the beginning of a mini epic cafe crawl where Dan an I got seriously wired. We landed at 15th ave coffee and tea, Victrola 1, Herkimer, Lighthouse, Stumptown pike and stumptown 12th ave.. and I think Vivace... I lost track.

Danger Dan Griffin getting ready to cup it up at Seattle's 15th ave Coffee and Tea. Meanwhile, the starbucks corporate guy tries to explain something that doesn't make any sense.
